Agreement expands options for elementary education students
October 18, 2023–Ephraim, UT – Snow College and Southern Utah University (SUU) have signed an articulation agreement benefitting students pursuing their degree in elementary education. Students who complete their associate degree at Snow, taking the appropriate courses and meeting minimum GPA requirements, will be eligible to transfer that degree to SUU where they can complete the last two years of their coursework online or on campus.
Snow College Professor Dr. David Rodríguez Sanfiorenzo explained that while all elementary education students will benefit from this partnership, it is particularly beneficial for students in the region. He said, “The new agreement is part of a larger pathway for Snow College students. With this pathway, students will earn a paraprofessional certificate alongside their associate degree. Upon graduation from Snow, students are prepared to work in local schools and start building their careers while they continue their education online through SUU.”
During the signing, Snow College Provost Michael Austin remarked that this is just the first of many of these types of partnerships. With the current teacher shortage, the two schools felt it was vital to start with an education agreement. He said, “Our new partnership with Southern Utah University will allow our students to certify as teachers while remaining part of the Snow College community and working in our local schools. This will be a game changer for school districts in central Utah.”
