College Hosts Second Annual Snow Day on the Hill

Members of the Snow College community gather at Capitol Hill

February 7, 2024–EPHRAIM, UT – Leaders, trustees, faculty, friends, and students of Snow College gathered in the Capitol Rotunda today to present Snow Day on the Hill. This annual tradition provides the school the opportunity to both thank the Utah Legislature and also to demonstrate the excellent work being done at Snow College.

Snow leaders believe gathering in the Rotunda is an excellent time to show gratitude to the Utah Legislature for all they have done for Snow College. President Stacee Yardley McIff remarked, “We appreciate the support our legislators give to Snow. We are grateful to have many friends here who recognize the significant role Snow College plays in the Utah System of Higher Education.”

School officials also wanted to demonstrate the impact Snow College has on the state. President McIff explained, “We hear from so many people that Snow College is the best kept secret in higher education. We are here to change that—we don’t want to be a secret. As the second-oldest institution in the state, we have been impacting students’ lives for generations. It’s always so rewarding to visit with people and learn about the connections they have to Snow and hear about how much the college has influenced their lives.”

Students and faculty members set up displays and spoke with lawmakers, highlighting the opportunities available for students at Snow. “I’ve had opportunities early on at Snow that I wouldn't have gotten until my senior year at a bigger school,” said sophomore Avery Allred. She continued, “I’ve had leadership roles and hands-on labs. Students can travel, present at conferences, or even get help starting a business. If I were at a bigger university, I would have had to wait until my junior or senior year to do all that.”

As the time with the legislators came to a close, President McIff was pleased with the event. She said, “I appreciate all who stopped by to support Snow. I love what we do and want to make sure everyone here knows about the extraordinary work and results happening at Snow College. In addition to the amazing value and opportunities we offer students, we continue to be a strong partner with the community, industries, and local school districts. Snow College just keeps getting stronger, and we look forward to serving many more generations of Utahns.”
