Dr. Michael Austin Selected as New Provost

The Academic Affairs Vice President will begin on October 1, 2023.

August 9, 2023 – Ephraim, UT – Snow College is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Michael Austin as the new Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. Dr. Austin will leave his post as the Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost at the University of Evansville (Indiana) to begin his work at Snow College, effective October 1.

Snow College President Stacee Y. McIff said, “We are so happy to welcome Dr. Austin to Snow College. His experience as a faculty member, department chair, dean, published author, and administrator will benefit our students and the entire college. In addition to his experience with faculty, accreditation, and strategic planning, Dr. Austin is committed to collaborating and developing strong teams. We look forward to utilizing all of his skills in this key role.”

Prior to his work at Evansville, Dr. Austin held the provost position at Newman University in Wichita, Kansas. He earned a Ph.D. in English Literature from the University of California at Santa Barbara, and a MA and BA in English from Brigham Young University. He has several publications, including a bestselling textbook Reading the World: Ideas that Matter, which is currently in its fourth edition and has been adopted by more than 200 colleges and universities nationwide. Dr. Austin has also been involved in community engagement, where he has served on numerous boards and co-founded By Common Consent (BCC) Press.

Of the appointment, Dr. Austin said, “Snow College is a remarkable institution with a unique heritage, a vital mission, and an extraordinary faculty. I am thrilled to join President McIff’s leadership team. And I am excited that I will be able to play a role in Snow’s very bright future.”
