Snow Student Wins Silver at National SkillsUSA Competition

July 18, 2024–EPHRAIM, UT – Snow College construction management student Eli Beagley recently returned from the National SkillsUSA competition in Atlanta, GA, where he took silver in the carpentry division. Eli was invited to participate in the national competition after winning gold on the state level in the spring.

The competition was tight in a heavily crowded field of nearly 70 students. After the competitors were given the plans, they had nine hours to construct a small building with quite a complex roof. The students were judged on overall completion, accuracy, safety, tool etiquette, and organization. Eli came home with $1,000 in new construction tools and his performance qualified him for multiple scholarship opportunities.

Eli was grateful for the experience in Atlanta. He said, “It was such a unique and amazing experience. The support for everyone was incredible. There were many opportunities for networking and possible career paths. I was surrounded by people encouraging me and helping me know that I could do this competition.”

Construction management professor David Barker accompanied Eli to Atlanta and was pleased with how well Eli represented Snow College. He said, “Competition day was a grueling nine-hour day with just one short lunch break. Eli worked hard and impressed the judges. He was also able to make many connections with the best in the business. I’m proud of Eli and am excited to see where his career takes him.”
