Snow Hosts Light and Sound Bootcamp

October 30, 2024 - Ephraim, UT – Snow College recently invited students from area high schools to participate in the Light and Sound Bootcamp. The students each learned how to better run those systems in their school auditoriums. Students and faculty members came from Emery, Manti, Gunnison, and North Sevier, and South Sevier high schools.

Students were given hands-on workshops focusing on proper audio mixing techniques, theater lighting, live sound and wiring mics, monitors and feedback, and more. The students also attended a presentation about the science of sound to learn the how and why behind sound design.

The Light and Sound Bootcamp is an annual event, usually held toward the beginning of the school year. The idea for the bootcamp came after a local high school student, who, due to lack to training, ruined two speakers in his auditorium. The student asked if someone from Snow could help him figure out what he had done wrong. Snow College audiovisual experts Loren Thompson and Keston Thompson visited the high school and taught the student how to properly run the equipment. Learning that this lack of training was a problem for many of the local schools, Loren and Keston created the Light and Sound Bootcamp to help fill that need.
