Student Success Advisors Welcome Class of 2026

New incoming students receive academic advising in preparation for fall semester

February 9, 2024–EPHRAIM, UT – The Snow College Student Success Advisors are preparing for what is shaping up to be their busiest season yet. In a move toward a model in which every student would receive academic advising, the school sent out letters to almost 5,000 newly admitted students encouraging them to schedule an appointment with their student success advisor prior to the opening of fall class registration.

In this meeting, students will have the opportunity to discuss their personal and educational goals. Advisors and students will work together to create an educational plan to help the student meet those goals and graduate on time. Advisors will also ensure that students know the process for registration and that they have the tools they need to be successful.

Director of Academic Advising Landon Peterson stressed that advisors are the most important student contact on campus. He explained, “Advisors are the student’s guide through the institution. From referrals to resources to helping students chart their course to realize their biggest dreams, advisors play a key role in the student experience.”

In order to enhance that experience, the office has undergone some key changes. In the past five years, seven additional advisors have been hired. Each advisor now oversees just over 300 students, with their caseload divided up based on majors. This allows the advisor to become a specialist on each major, even attending division meetings to stay up-to-date with changes.

Improvements to a degree-planning tool have also augmented the advising experience. Rather than simply receiving a schedule for the term, students will now have a full graduation plan. This degree planning tool will integrate with the student scheduling software, offering a seamless process for students and freeing up time for the advisors. Rather than simply creating schedules, advisors will have more time to engage with the students—getting to know them and learning about their unique needs.

Peterson is excited about the changes and looks forward to seeing the impact the new systems will have for the incoming group of students. He commented, “We have amazing advisors at Snow College that deeply care for their students and want them to succeed. I’m so excited to continue to develop the best possible experience for students with the amazing team of professionals I have the privilege to work with every day.”

Students are encouraged to make an appointment with their advisor as soon as possible so that they are ready when fall registration opens on April 8, 2024. They can do so by visiting snow.edu/advisement. For more information about attending Snow College, please visit snow.edu.
