Christine Hanks Named as the Utah SBDC 2023 State Star

Prestigious award recognizes outstanding SBDC professionals

September 6, 2023 – Ephraim, UT – Christine Hanks, Associate Director of the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) at Snow College has been recognized at Utah’s top SBDC professional of 2023, and presented with the organizations “State Star” award. To be considered for this award, employees must be shown to make a significant contribution to their state or regional SBDC program and show a strong commitment to small business.

Hanks is known throughout central Utah as the small business expert. She regularly teaches small business owners how to leverage social media to build their business and empowers them with leadership skills to help them as they grow their teams. She runs multiple training programs to help small business owners learn everything from record-keeping to what kind of tax forms they need to fill out.

Hanks has a passion for assisting women and equipping them with the skills needed to run a successful business. She runs a Women in Business program with monthly training sessions and an annual conference. Hanks said, “I have always believed that networking is important and women embrace this. By providing training and opportunities to bring women together, powerful relationships have been formed leading to impactful success.”

Interim Vice President for Technical Education Jay Olsen was pleased to hear that Hanks would be recognized nationally for her work with the SBDC. He said, “Christine’s enthusiasm for rural entrepreneurship comes from ‘been there, done that’ experiences that immediately connect her to central Utah rural businesses. She has a clear understanding of their challenges and a clarity for providing resources to help them succeed.”
