The Utah Academy of Sciences, Arts, and Letters presented the distinguished award
November 10, 2025 – Ephraim, UT – Snow College is proud to announce that Dr. Rachel Keller, Professor of English and former President of the Utah Academy of Sciences, Arts, and Letters (UASAL), has been selected as the 2025 Academy Fellow by the Utah Academy Board. This distinguished honor recognizes Dr. Keller’s significant contributions to Utah’s academic community and her leadership within the Academy.
Each fall, UASAL honors individuals across the state who have made outstanding contributions to education and scholarship in Utah. The Academy Fellow award is one of four prestigious medals presented annually, alongside the Honorary Member, Distinguished Service, and Gardner Prize. Recipients are selected by vote of the Utah Academy Board and receive lifetime membership in the Academy and a UASAL medal.
Dr. Keller was recognized for her extensive academic and leadership work, both within UASAL and at Snow College, where she is known for her dedication to teaching and commitment to student success. She also delivered this year’s James H. Wolfe Address, titled “Navigating Difficult Times: What UASAL Offers Us,” during the Academy’s awards ceremony last Friday evening at Brigham Young University.
“Rachel Keller is an outstanding teacher and member of the Snow College community,” said Provost Michael Austin. “She cares passionately about education, and she works hard to make her students successful. We are extremely proud of her for receiving this important award.”
In addition to Dr. Keller’s recognition, Snow College students Miranda Slusser and Savanna Thompson were also honored at the event for their research poster titled, “Body Worlds: Issues of Corpses & Human Dignity, Insights from Rome.” The students completed their project under the supervision of Dr. Gregory Wright as part of a philosophy travel seminar in Rome. UASAL chose their poster, recognizing them for their thoughtful and compelling work exploring questions of ethics and human dignity. Dr. Wright said, “Miranda and Savanna’s poster on the ethical treatment of human remains received universal praise for its content and presentation. Their work not only stands up to that of other undergraduate students around the state but surpasses it."
Dr. Keller’s election as Academy Fellow and the recognition of Snow College students reflects the spirit of scholarship, curiosity, and community that define Snow College. The college congratulates all three honorees for their achievements and for representing Snow College with excellence.
