The Ephraim native will lead the next era of Badger Athletics beginning August 1, 2025
July 15, 2025 – Ephraim, UT – Snow College is pleased to announce Karen Johnson as the new athletic director. Johnson has served as the assistant athletic director for the past six years, working closely with current Athletic Director, Rob Nielson. Nielson, who will retire on August 1, 2025, expressed his support for Johnson’s selection.
Snow College President Stacee Y. McIff praised the search committee’s work, stating, “We have an excellent legacy of athletics at Snow College, and Karen has been a part of that legacy as both a coach and an administrator. She understands firsthand how athletics enhances the student experience, and I am confident she will continue this important tradition.”
Johnson completed her bachelor’s degree in Dance Performance with a minor in Business Management and earned a masters degree in Arts Administration from Southern Utah University. Prior to stepping into athletics administration, Johnson coached the Snow College dance team and worked briefly in the college’s Human Resource Office. She has also served on numerous college committees and was selected to participate in the Utah Women’s Leadership Exchange (UWLE) program as well as the National Junior College Atheltics Association (NJCAA) Aspiring Leaders program. Johnson’s external experience includes serving as a NJCAA committee member, chairing the Region 18 Softball Committee, and faciliting college partnerships with Ephraim City Recreation.
Commenting on her new role, Johnson said, “Being selected as athletic director is an honor and a privilege. Snow College has a proud tradition of excellence, both athletically and academically, and I am deeply committed to building on that strong foundation. I look forward to working alongside our dedicated coaches, staff, student-athletes, and the entire Snow College community to elevate Badger Athletics to new heights.” Snow College sponsors 14 intercollegiate athletic teams across its Ephraim and Richfield campuses, reflecting the college’s strong tradition of student engagement and commitment to the student experience.
