Career Center Wins Career Spark Award

Competitive award recognizes top career centers

October 17, 2023–Ephraim, UT – The Snow College Career Center has won the Handshake Career Spark Award for its outstanding work connecting students with employers. The award recognizes the center as a responsive, reliable, and successful pillar of support for students as they navigate college to career.

Handshake is the top job platform for early talent with 75% of all US college students having access through their school’s career services center and more than 750,000 employers regularly using the platform to recruit early talent. The Career Spark Awards recognize the top career centers in three categories—student engagement, employer engagement, and reporting and analytics. Snow is one of only 31 institutions to receive an award this year of over 1,400 schools using Handshake. The school is one of only four to be recognized specifically for student engagement.

Career Day Stand

The Career Center provides more than 40 recruiting/networking events and nearly 100 workshops annually. Advising over 1,200 students each year in career preparation, the center relies heavily on Handshake to help manage all the moving parts. Career Center Director Lisa Laird said, “As a small staff we use many tools, including Handshake, to keep students informed of the many recruiting events and career exploration activities we host each year. We are honored that Handshake has recognized Snow’s Career Center for our student engagement.”

Jay Olsen, Interim Vice President for Technical Education and Workforce Development at Snow College was pleased to hear that the Career Center team had been recognized with this prestigious award. He remarked, “Lisa and the entire Career Center team do great work connecting students to jobs and internships on campus, with our central Utah industry partners, and beyond. The services they offer such as resume building, networking, coaching, and interview skills are invaluable and help ensure our students are ready to transition from college to career.” The college’s aspirational statement highlights students’ abilities to gain resume-worthy experiences, and the Career Center is a vital part to helping students reach that goal.
