This was a phishing simulation to raise awareness of helpdesk or job scams; your data
is safe. Phishing emails are common and often can be sent in the form of a text message
as well.
The Help Desk will never contact you asking for your password and they will not notify
you about your account expiring. If you receive such messages, it's most likely a
scam. Always verify through official channels before responding. For example, you
can contact the IT Office or the relevant department directly by phone.
All legitimate on-campus and off-campus jobs for Snow College students will be posted
and handled exclusively through Handshake. Be very careful with any job offer texts
or hiring emails you receive directly. Legitimate offers through Handshake will come
as an email labeled "From Handshake on behalf of "XYZ" company. Anything else is likely
a scam. If you get a suspicious email, please call the Career Center to verify its
legitimacy before responding.
Future Tips & Tricks For Spotting Phishing Messages
Always verify the sender. Phishing emails may look like they are coming from HR but
are really coming from HR <hr@gmail.com> instead of HR <hr@snow.edu>. Accounts can
also get compromised and then used for nefarious puproses.
Whenever possible do not click links in email; go directly to the site.
If a message seems to good to be true, it probably is.
Snow College will never ask you for your password or other sensitive personal information
via email, text, or phone. Always be suspicious if you receive such requests.
Any email that asks you to login should be suspicious.
Slow down and take a few moments to examine a message before you open or interact
with it.
Snow College provides a "Report Phishing" button inside your Snow College email account
interface. This button allows you to quickly and safely report suspicious emails.
When you use this button, the potentially malicious email will be removed from your
inbox and sent to Snow College's IT security team for analysis. This helps protect
you and the entire Snow College community from phishing attacks.
