This workshop will focus on two major types of jewelry construction, wax work and bench fabrication. Participants will create a ring or pendant using the lost wax process which will include, wax carving, spruing, using investment, centrifugal casting, and finishing. We will also make a ring or pendant with a semi-precious stone set into a bezel. This will include lapidary technique, forming, piercing, soldering, and finishing metal. Both products will be made out of sterling silver. This workshop is open to participants at all levels of experience.
Samuel Steadman is primarily a sculptor and has been using jewelry as his main avenue of creation for the last 24 years. He is a teaching artist with unique aesthetics, but as he interacts with hundreds of students each year he is often forced to think outside of his own ideas to solve problems. The combinations of seeing student’s designs and the need to figure out and practice various techniques to help those students accomplish their designs has led to a somewhat eclectic body of work. Samuel is the owner and operator of Bipolar Art and Jewelry. He has been teaching jewelry making for 22 years at Mountain View High school and is a recognized metal artist with the Utah County Art Board. He received his BA and MA in art education from Brigham Young University.
