Family and Consumer Science

Family and Consumer Science offers an opportunity for students to pursue interest in all program areas. This emphasis helps students fill their roles in society, both in and out of the work force. Students investigate human relationships as well as basic family science, theory, and practical skills.

For students who have particular interest in Clothing and Textiles the following classes are available at Snow College:

  • Introductory Sewing
  • Intermediate Sewing
  • Quiltmaking
  • Cosplay

Students who take these classes will:

  • Develop sewing skills 
  • Practice sustainable wardrobe principles through learning to mend, alter or repurpose clothing
  • Make a costume for Cosplay or other non-theater use
  • Learn piecing methods for quilts and use a long-arm quilting machine to complete a quilted project

Possible careers for those who study Family and Consumer Science:

  • Secondary Family and Consumer Science Eduction 
  • Family and Consumer Science Cooperative Extension 
  • Product Developer
  • Entrepreneur

Family & Consumer Science Pathway

2+2 Models

Community Colleges (also called 2-Year Colleges) offer an easy, affordable way to start your university studies. This is commonly referred to as the 2 + 2 Education Model, and it creates a smooth path which leads you to earn both a 2-year Associate's degree and a 4-year Bachelor’s degree.
