Catalog Description: In this course students participate in a group ensemble experience on brass instruments. This course may be repeated for credit.

Prerequisites: By permission of instructor only

Justification: Music majors in general and performance majors in particular are required to participate in a chamber music experience. Playing in this kind of ensemble provides a focus on intonation, articulation and style that is not possible to achieve in a larger ensemble. This course will transfer as a performance credit. Most four-year institutions with music programs offer chamber music opportunities for undergraduates.


Student Learning Outcomes:
Students will play with improved intonation, articulation and style through practice and rehearsal of selected literature both individually and collectively. The ensemble will perform in concert or recital at least once per semester.  Assessment of this outcome will be ongoing throughout the semester and will culminate in the concert/recital of selected literature each semester.

Students will demonstrate improved musicality in their performance of selected literature.  Assessment of this outcome will be ongoing throughout the semester and will culminate in the concert/recital of selected literature each semester.


Content:
Members of the ensemble will learn and perform appropriate literature as selected by the instructor.

Key Performance Indicators:
Satisfactory participation in ensemble rehearsal:  30 to 40%

Satisfactory participation in each ensemble performance:  30 to 40%

Periodic playing tests:  20 to 30%


Pedagogy Statement:
This course will be delivered via mentored rehearsals.
