Catalog Description: In this course students study serious wind ensemble literature. Concerts are given each semester. Audition required.; This course is repeatable for credit.

Justification: This course provides students with an opportunity to study significant literature for wind ensemble. Through preparation and performance of quality band literature, students enrolled in this course will develop an understanding and appreciation for the various styles of wind literature. All four-year institutions in Utah offer a band experience. Snow College ensemble credits transfer without difficulty. Students wishing to continue band at a four-year institution must develop competitive performance skills while at Snow College.

Student Learning Outcomes:
Students will accurately perform literature selected by the instructor. They will communicate that understanding to their audience in concert. Students will demonstrate through performance an understanding of the musical practices of different world cultures as expressed in contemporary wind ensemble literature. 

They will understand this literature with respect to historical context. Students will also demonstrate through performance, an understanding of the musical practices of different historical periods. 

Students will demonstrate through performance an understanding of the musical values of the works being studied.  

Music from all stylistic periods of legitimate band repertoire will be studied, practiced, rehearsed and performed. Proper instrumental technique will be stressed.

Key Performance Indicators:
Each student will be evaluated on the following:

Satisfactory participation in sectional and full ensemble rehearsal: 40-50 % of the final grade. 

Satisfactory participation in each ensemble performance: 30- 40% of final grade. 

Periodic playing tests: 20-30%% of final grade.
