Portrait of Alisa Larsen

Vocal

Lyric soprano Alisa Larsen’s smooth, Italianate sound and varied interests put her equally at home singing opera, oratorio, and concert works, with a special affinity for the American Songbook. Ms. Larsen made her Carnegie Hall début in 2011 singing Haydn's Missa Brevis Sancti Joannis de Deo and John Rutter’s Requiem.

Recent appearances include soprano soloist in Handel’s Messiah with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, Pam in The Magic Dream, Pamina in The Magic Flute Sing-Along, and Minnie in The Prospector with Los Angeles Opera, and soprano soloist in Mozart’s Benedictus sit Deus and Exsultate, jubilate, and Beethoven’s Mass in C with Rochester Oratorio Society.

Previous seasons’ appearances include Adina in L’Elisir d’Amore with Opera Las Vegas and Handel’s Messiah with the Southern Nevada Musical Arts Society. Ms. Larsen was also a regular on SNMAS Pops Concerts, singing the songs of George Gershwin, Irving Berlin, Harold Arlen, Johnny Mercer, and Cole Porter.

Career highlights include Tan Dun’s Water Passion after St. Matthew, Valeri Kikta’s La Luce delle Tacite Stelle with harp chorus, choral works of Bach, Vivaldi, Handel, Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, and Dvorak, plus Giulia in Gilbert & Sullivan’s Gondoliers and Gabriella in La Rondine with Utah Opera and Isabelle/Madeline in The Face on the Barroom Floor with Opera Las Vegas.

Her experience with new music includes Schoenberg’s 2nd String Quaret with Intermezzo Chamber Music Ensemble, Pulitzer Prize-winning Yehudi Wyner’s song cycle On This Most Voluptuous Night with Canyonlands New Music Ensemble, and Milton Babbit’s Phonemena. She has been honored to work with and premiere works by living composers Igor Iachimciuc, Brian Crosby, Sam Richards and Marie Grudzien.

Ms. Larsen was a finalist in the Rocky Mountain Region of the 2007 Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions. She was also a Winner in Rochester Oratorio Society’s 2012 Classical Idol opera competition. In the summer of 2006, as a resident artist with Berkshire Opera, she sang the role of Gretel in Hänsel & Gretel. Ms. Peterson received her M.M. in Vocal Performance from the University of Utah and her B.A. in Music from Brigham Young University.
