Microsoft Security Essentials

Anti-virus software is the basic component to protecting your computer from malicious software, often referred to as malware. Snow College is licensed to use Security Essentials. Installation is recommended for every computer on campus. When interacting with the employees, always check to make sure that the software is installed and updated.

 

Installation instructions: 

Step 1: Make sure you are not running any programs except Firefox or Internet Explorer.

Step 2: Go to:

http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/security_essentials/default.aspx

Step 3: Click:

“Download it free* today” > Run > Run > Next > I accept > “I do not want to . . .” and “Next” > Next > Install > Finish.

Step 4: Let program update and then restart PC.

Step 5: In the system tray (bottom right hand corner), right click the castle icon and select "Open".

Step 6: Click "Scan now"

 

 

Update instructions: 

Step 1: In the system tray (bottom right hand corner), right click the castle icon and select "Open".

Step 2: Click the Update tab.

Step 3: Click "Update".
