Course Description
This course is for second-year members of the men's intercollegiate football team at Snow College. This class is intended to put student athletes into an optimal position so they will be ready to play football during an intercollegiate season and improve their endurance, leadership and team skills, and rule-based knowledge of the sport. Course is not repeatable for credit.
Justification
Physical activity is an important component of lifetime health and wellness. Physical activity can lead to positive physiological and psychological outcomes. Obesity, cardiovascular disease, Type-II diabetes, osteoporosis and cancer risk may be reduced with physical activity. Physical activity has been identified as an effective antidepressant and treatment for depression. This class will provide access to physical activity for students enrolled. Students who take activity classes also have improved overall college success. Activity courses fulfill elective requirements for all majors as well as pre-requisite requirements for some teaching majors.
Student Learning Outcomes
- Student athletes will be able to demonstrate the skills, fundamentals and rules of football.
- Student athletes will be able to demonstrate the leadership qualities associated with playing as a team.
- Student athletes will be able to explain, discuss, and demonstrate the use of physical conditioning techniques and training skills.
Course Content
This course will cover all the fundamentals of football including offense, defense, team play, special situations, conditioning. The Exercise Science Department and Snow College value the success of all students. This class will strive to help students succeed through class materials and course content including examples, assignments, discussions, etc.
Key Performance Indicators: Students will be evaluated on:Participation 20 to 40%Instructor Assessment and Observation of skills, fundamentals, rules, and conditioning 30 to 40%Instructor Evaluation/Observation of Leadership and Teamwork 30 to 40%Representative Text and/or Supplies: Instructor/coach materials provided.Pedagogy Statement: This class will be taught by lecture and lab which allows the students to learn about participating on an intercollegiate sports team. Players from various backgrounds and cultures are brought together to form a team. This course will promote student success by structuring assessment and teaching methods with the specific philosophy of valuing each participant's effort to improve one's self.
