Catalog Description: This physical education activity class is designed to help students understand the rules and strategies of Walleyball, to help them improve their skills, and play safely and effectively. This class is repeatable up to 2 times for credit.

Justification: Physical activity is an important component of lifetime health and wellness. Physical activity can lead to positive physiological and psychological outcomes. Obesity, cardiovascular disease, Type-II diabetes, osteoperosis and cancer risk may be reduced with physical activity. Physical activity has been identified as an effective antidepressant and treatment for depression. This class will provide access to physical activity for students enrolled.


Student Learning Outcomes:
Students will demonstrate knowledge of the rules and strategies of walleyball. Students' knowledge of walleyball rules and strategies will be assessed through in-class observation assessments.

Students will learn basic walleyball skills and be able to demonstrate these skills.  Students will demonstrate a knowledge of walleyball skills and be able to demonstrate basic walleyball skills through pre and post skills testing at the beginning and end of the semester.

Students will be able to develop incremental gains in walleyball skills through regular class participation.  Students will show increased skills through regular class participation/attendance and pre and post skills testing.

 


Content:
This activity course will cover the fundamentals and skills necessary to play Wallyball and help students gain the knowledge of the rules. Physical Education disciplines at Snow College value human diversity. This activity class will strive to represent that diversity in class materials and course content through examples, assignments, discussions, etc.

Students will be evaluated on:

In-class observation assessments of knowledge of rules an strategies 30 to 40%

Pre and Post testing of basic skills 30 to 40%

Attendance/participation 20 to 40%

Pedagogy Statement:
This activity class will be taught by lecture and lab which allows students to learn and practice skills, as well as be assessed on knowledge of the rules of Wallyball. This course will promote inclusion by structuring assessment and teaching methods with the specific philosophy of valuing each participant's effort to improve, no matter the social category or demographic group they identify with.
