Course Description

This course is for second-year members of the Women's Intercollegiate Soccer team at Snow College. Soccer is a sport that requires a high fitness level and good conditioning. High fitness levels and good conditioning have been shown to lead to fewer injuries. This class is intended to put student-athletes into an optimal position so that they will be ready to play soccer during an Intercollegiate season and improve their soccer skills, leadership and rule based knowledge of the sport.

Justification

Physical activity is an important component of lifetime health and wellness; Physical activity can lead to positive physiological and psychological outcomes; Obesity, cardiovascular disease, Type-II diabetes, osteoporosis and cancer risk may be reduced with physical activity; Physical activity has been identified as an effective antidepressant and treatment for depression; This class will provide access to physical activity for students enrolled.

Student Learning Outcomes

  1. Student athletes will be able to demonstrate the skills, conditioning and fundamentals and rules of soccer.
  2. Student athletes will be able to demonstrate the leadership qualities associated with playing as a team, including work ethic and attitude.
  3. Student athletes will be able to explain and discuss the use of physical conditioning techniques and training skills.

Course Content

This course will cover all the fundamentals of soccer conditioning, soccer skills, leadership and knowledge of the sport's rules.
