Catalog Description: Students will learn life skills that will help and encourage them to be successful in college and in life beyond college.

Justification: Student athletes are in need of a course that helps to prepare them for the upcoming challenge of being collegiate student athletes. We believe offering this course will help prepare them for the demands of playing college athletics, while also maintaining a level of success in the classroom and in their personal lifes.


Student Learning Outcomes:
AA Degree outline and graduation worksheet:

Students will learn what classes are needed to graduate from Snow College with and Associate Degree and what is needed to transfer to a 4 year University. This will give them ownership of their academic goals. Students will demonstrate understanding by correct completion of AA Degree outline and Graduation Worksheet.

Canvas and Badger Web functions:

Students will learn how to access and set up their Canvas accounts. They will also learn how to access their Badger Web and how their online accounts should be used while at Snow College. Students will demonstrate understanding by correct completion of Canvas and Badger Web login information.

FAFSA application:

Students will learn how to fill out and complete their FAFSA applications and work within a budget. We will work with each student to create a budget for their first year in college so that they can understand how to plan ahead financially. Students will demonstrate understanding by correct completion of all FAFSA application information and documentation.

Budgeting:

Each student will learn how to open a checking and savings account. Students will learn how to manage their money and what their financial priorities should be. Students will demonstrate understanding by correct completion of monthly and semester budgets and correction completion of opening a checking and savings account.

Medical paperwork:

Students will be instructed how to complete their required medical paperwork needed for participation in the NJCAA. Students will demonstrate understanding by correct completion of all medical paperwork.

Nutrition:

Students will learn the importance of a balanced diet. They will learn what foods they should be eating and what foods they should avoid. Students will learn how to budget for their dietary needs. Students will learn the value of their money. Students will be taught how to shop for groceries versus going out to eat. Students will demonstrate understanding by correct completion of the importance of student nutritional needs.

Correct completion of all requirements 20 to 40%


Pedagogy Statement:
This course will be taught in a lab setting where the instructor will guide the students through a variety of activities. Personal instruction and video instruction may also be used.
