Campus Employer Facts

Hiring and supervising students does not have to be complicated. Follow the advice given here for successfully posting your campus jobs and making fair hiring decisions.

Posting jobs on Career Badger:

Because all student jobs are funded directly or indirectly by state and federal funds, they must be posted on Career Badger, Snow College's central student employment site. Jobs must be posted for 3 days or until you have three (3) qualified student applicants - whichever comes later. Step by step instructions to post your job may be viewed or downloaded through the Career Badger Employer Guide.

What defines a qualified applicant?

They are a Snow student taking six (6) credits or more ON CAMPUS. You may not hire high school students taking concurrent enrollment courses or students from other colleges taking distance education classes on our campus.

What types of student jobs are available?

Federal Work Study (FWS): Work Study is a federally-funded work program that students must apply for as part of their annual federal financial aid application (FAFSA.gov). Only students who are awarded Work-Study by Snow College Financial Aid may apply for these jobs. Financial Aid, in consultation with the Student Employment Committee, determines which departments receive FWS funds to host student workers.

Work To Learn (WTL): A state funded program, these jobs are related to the student's academic degree or future career field. Some campus WTL jobs may also help students develop specific leadership, management or office skills to succeed in their future careers. Funding is awarded annually through the Career Center.  Department and Division job funds are awarded in April for the next school year through the Career Center and a 5-person Student Employment Committee composed of one Dean, One Staff Supervisor, Human Resource Representative, Financial Aid Director, and Budget Director. When funds are available, the Career Center sends an email is sent to all Snow Employees to submit a Request for Proposal.

Student Hourly Positions: Hourly positions are open to any qualified student and are funded by the specific departments or divisions at Snow College. These jobs provide office, custodial, food service, or other vital or necessary services for the day-to-day operation of Snow College.

As a campus employer how do I apply for Federal Work Study or Work to Learn Funds?  Department and Division job funds are awarded in April for the next school year through the Career Center in consultation with a 5-person Student Employment Committee composed of one Dean, One Staff Supervisor, Human Resource Representative, Financial Aid Director, and Budget Director. When new funds are available (late Spring or Early Fall), the Career Center sends an email to all Snow Employees to submit a Request for Proposal.  The Committee determines which departments receive funds and Career Center will notify all applicants on the outcomes.
