The Perks of Working in the Mail Room

The Perks of Working in the Mail Room
Whether you are new to Snow College or returning, working on-campus has perks.

According to Bri Powell, manager of Campus Mail Services, “There is no such thing as a “typical” day in Mail Services. We get to exist between three extremes. We are either slammed with packages, mail and setups to deal with, or we get to relax and enjoy each other’s company and study hard for upcoming tests!” How busy the mailroom is usually depends on the time of year. Bri also says typical assignments in mail services consist of processing packages for Student, Faculty, and Staff, sorting and delivering mail, assisting students with finding lost mail and working closely with student life and ambassadors to make sure they have everything they need for all their awesome events.

The hours in mail services will depend on which position you are hired for, but will typically be 6-12 hours per week. Students start at minimum wage but can increase their wage by returning to work in mail services for multiple semesters. Performance and leadership skills can also help students to increase their wage. Openings for this job will be located on Career Badger on August 1, and positions fill up fast! Employee training starts on August 13 this year. Students who are not hired for fall semester can try again for the spring or summer semester the Monday after Thanksgiving or at the end of April.

Bri says, “Mail services will help develop skills like independence, time-management, self-motivation, problem solving skills, communications, and leadership.” Highlights of the job include getting to know a lot of the faculty and staff, working with other departments, attending trainings that teach life skills, meeting and associating with the other students, and getting to drive “Sea Swallow” the golf cart.
