One of the most widely known places to visit on campus is the Snow College Huntsman
Library. It is a place for pleasure and work, making it a great environment for employment.
Student Jaiden Kinsey, a librarian assistant, says that helping people is a satisfying
feeling and you learn skills that are important and rewarding.
The library hires for student positions that are 8-10 hours a week dictated by the student’s schedule and library need. Positions are $7.25/hour but second year returning students can earn up to $8/hour depending on their performance. A mix of work-to-learn and federal work study jobs are available in the library. Five positions will be up for grabs as four positions will be filled by returning students for the fall 2018 semester. A few students may also be hired at the beginning of spring semester.
Laura Faatz, Public Services Librarian, explains that the bulk of work done in the library includes scanning and shelving books in the correct order. Other tasks are assigned according to the different positions. Some students may be tasked with keeping the library in good order while others work on displays, or other projects. Laura says students learn good customer service by being nice, friendly, and thoughtful even when people are challenging. Students improve their organization, time management, and communication skills.
Student Kyle Berry, a librarian supervisor, says the job provides experience that will be helpful in future jobs such as learning computer skills, customer service, and computer programs. Jaiden and Kyle said the staff is very welcoming and happy to help whenever needed.
All on campus jobs, including the library positions, will be open on August 1. More information on these jobs are located on Badger Handshake. Questions and concerns regarding on and off campus jobs can be directed to the Career Center.
