When walking through your office doors, do you have a sense of anticipation, a smile
on your face, and a bounce in your step? If the answer is no and you are weighed down
feeling dread and trepidation pulling at your heart each day at work, there are some
tips that can help you become more engaged as an employee. Become engaged, and you
can finally start to answer yes to our question.
An article written by Hannah Morgan from U.S. News, offers some advice on how to have employee engagement.
Know what is expected of you at work. This may involve having a conversation with
your boss every so often to make sure that you are on the same page.
Use the materials needed to do the work right and understand that you have the opportunity
to do what you do best every day. If some materials are not available, make sure to
find out the cost involved and present a case to your boss to see if you can get these
items. Find the ways that help you to do your best work.
Recognize praise that is given to you for good work. “This assumes that people know
about your good work. If no one notices, it may be because you haven’t communicated
your achievement. As uncomfortable as this can be, remember, unsaid often goes unnoticed.”
Notice that there are people that care about you and encourage your development. Do
your part by opening up and sharing information, people will care more about you and
you will, in turn, care more about them as they return the favor. People are more
likely to help you if they see your potential and desire to improve.
Understand that you have had opportunities to grow and know that more will arise every
day at work. When you motivate yourself to take the opportunities available to you,
no matter how small, more doors will open and you will excel in your own personal
development.
Try out these tips and see how your attitude improves at work. What’s holding you
back from answering yes to being a happy and engaged employee?
