Grade Sheet

This grade sheet allows you to keep a record of your grade throughout the quarter. It is your responsibility to do so and to keep all graded papers. If there is any discrepancy between the grade you have calculated and the one that is assigned, it is your responsibility to prove what grade you have earned based on the graded papers you have in your possession. As the teacher I have the ability to change grades at any time and I have done so. I will not change your grade without reviewing your papers. Nor will I review your grade with you during the quarter to simply inform you as to what your grade is. I will be glad to talk with you about difficulties you are having and ways through which you might improve the effectiveness of your study time.

If you need a copy of the course outline or this grade sheet, just let me know.

Total points earned for the quarter: Grade:

Working Toward a Good Grade

A good grade in this class requires two simple things. First, regular attendance in class. I take attendance daily to encourage this and to meet federal requirements. (Missing class may result in a reduction of your grade. Missing one lab or four lectures results in a loss of 100 points from your total. Missing two labs or five to eight lectures results in a loss of 200 points. Missing more than two labs or more than eight lectures will result in a failing grade. Excused absences will be given if and only if I receive a written note explaining why and when the absences occurred within one week of the classes missed.) Second, regular study habits. You should be studying at least two hours for every hour of class time. Consider the following schedule for a first quarter pre-med major:

Recommended classes            Class time/week             Study time/week
CHEM 121                                         5                                     10
MATH 105                                         5                                     10
ENGL 101                                          3                                       6
HUMANITIES                                  3                                       6
SUBTOTALS                                  16                                     32

                                                                      TOTAL 48 hrs.

Exam Policy

All exams except the final are given in the testing center. It is your responsibility to know the testing schedule and to take the exams during the scheduled time. If an exam is missed because the testing center is busy, the exam may not be taken late. A comprehensive make-up exam at the end of the quarter may replace the lowest exam score (even if it is lower).

Study Groups and Oral Presentations

Early in the quarter the class will be divided into study groups. I encourage you to truly study together as a group. I will grant each member of any study group 10 extra points if no one in the study group fails the class. The study groups will also work together on a group assignment. This will be explained as the quarter progresses.

First Homework Assignments

1. Write a one-page letter of introduction and e-mail it to me at ( ude.wons@rendrag.luap). You might include some or all of the following: 1) your hometown, 2) how many credit you have, 3) your major, 4) in relation to this class, what are your strengths, weaknesses, fears, and goals, 5) what your roles are (jobs, church callings, parent, etc.) and how they might affect your performance in this class, 6) what your background in science is, 7) how physiology might play a role in your future, 8) tell me what I can do to help you achieve your goals in this class.

2. Take the pre-test at the Testing Center.
