Inherit the Wind
As a campus community we are all reading and discussing the play Inherit the Wind this semester. I would like you to participate since you are part of the campus community. This assignment goes in the homework category.
Please read the book of Inherit the Wind and answer three questions from each category in the accompanying �Three Levels of Questions� on a piece of paper that you turn in. If you do not wish to purchase the book from the bookstore (probably about $7), then there are many copies available for check-out in the library. The book/play is easily read in one sitting.
Also watch either the movie or the Snow College production of the play and answer three more questions from each category in the accompanying �Three Levels of Questions� on a piece of paper that you turn in.
The two above tasks are the minimum expected of all students. If you would like to do more with this activity I will award more points (optional or �extra credit�). For example, you could watch both the play and the movie (instead of just one or the other) and answer three more questions from each of the first two categories in �Three Levels of Questions� and turn them in along with a paragraph about how the issues in Inherit the Wind relate to our PHYS 1010 class.
Other extra credit efforts could include writing a page about the differences between the various versions of the play, or researching the John Scopes �Monkey Trial� on which the play is (loosely) based, and turning in a page or two about the historicity (or lack thereof) of the play in relation to the real trial.
