The Snow College Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) program is designed to prepare students to be knowledgeable, highly-trained, competent, caring registered nurses who can critically think and are ready to enter a variety of health care settings. We provide essential experiences and opportunities, in the classroom, lab, and clinical setting, leading to successful careers. Prerequisite and General Education Requirements

Pre-application requirements: The following must be completed before your application is submitted.

  • Cumulative College GPA of 3.0. Applicants with a cumulative college GPA between 2.80 to 2.99 may still apply by submitting a written petition. The petition should explain the reasons for the lower cumulative college GPA and can be addressed to the Nursing Committee. Submitting a petition does not guarantee admission into the ASN program.
  • Complete one of the following:
    • Math 0850, 1010, or higher math course passed with a grade of “C” (2.0) or better.
    • ALEKS PPL score of 30 or above.

Pre-Requisite Courses: Must be completed before the ASN program begins.

  • ENGL 1010 (GE)
  • CHEM 1110, 1115 (GE)
  • BIOL 2320/2325 (Pre-requisite)
  • BIOL 2420/2425 (Pre-requisite)
  • Current Utah CNA license

All prerequisite courses must be completed with a minimum grade of “C” for the ASN degree. Prerequisite courses are limited to a total of three attempts, for any one course, to achieve the “C” grade or above, including transfer courses. Applicants who have taken a prerequisite course more than three times will not be considered for admission to the ASN program.

Co-Requisite Courses: Must be completed by the end of the ASN year. Exception: PSY 1010 or HFST 1500.

Additional Requirements

Complete admission to the Snow College Nursing Program is contingent upon submission of satisfactory results of the following:

  1. Proof of current immunizations
    • Tdap: within the last 8 years
    • MMR: 2 doses or proof of immunity through a blood test.
    • Varicella: 2 doses or proof of immunity through a blood test.
    • Hepatitis B: 2-3 doses, depending on vaccine, or blood test with reactive result
    • TB (one of the following):
      • negative 2-step TB tests (two negative skin tests two weeks apart)
      • negative QuantiFERON TB blood test
      • chest x-ray with normal results
    • Flu shot: Required yearly, each fall
    • Covid shot: If you have received the Covid vaccine, please provide documentation. If there is an increase in Covid cases you will be required to follow the facilities’ protocol. If you are unvaccinated it may hinder your ability to attend clinicals.
  2. Drug screen

  4. Physical examination, required annually 
  5. BLS/CPR Card: A current BLS/CPR card must be maintained through the ASN program and meet the Healthcare requirement. We only accept: American Heart Association: Healthcare Professional, BLS or American Red Cross: BLS/CPR for Healthcare

    Snow College provides Healthcare BLS/CPR training, go to www.snow.edu/sbdc to find the locations, dates, and times. Contact Melissa if you have questions regarding your BLS/CPR course and if it meets the requirement.

    Immunizations that require two doses require at least a 4-week waiting period between doses. We strongly encourage you to start your immunizations ASAP.

    The Snow College Nursing Department reserves the right to request additional background checks and drug screenings for students enrolled in the nursing program. Admission to the ASN, RN program may be denied based on the results from the background or drug screen or if the required documentation is not turned in on time.

Please meet with a Snow College Academic Advisor to ensure all requirements for an ASN degree will be met.

All prerequisite and co-requisite courses must be completed with a minimum grade of “C” for the ASN degree. We follow Snow College’s grade requirement for the GE courses.

Co-requisite and suggested courses, completed with a minimum grade of “B-”, may be given points in the application process.

* PSY 1010 or HFST 1500 is required for the ASN degree and must be completed by the end of the first semester in the ASN program. If the additional course is completed, you may receive points in the application process.

** Associate degrees require a quantitative literacy course, i.e. MATH 1030 or higher; however, students transferring to a BSN or higher nursing program may need MATH 1040.

Further information will be included in the Welcome Letter that will be sent to those accepted.

New Student Orientation

The New Student Orientation for the ASN program is mandatory for students to attend. If you are not able to attend, you will forfeit your position in the ASN, RN program. Orientation dates will be provided upon acceptance to the ASN, RN program. Approximate dates will be two weeks before classes start fall semester and the Monday or Tuesday before classes start spring semester. Please plan accordingly.

Students accepted into the ASN program must be at least 18 years old by the first day of class. This requirement is from the facilities where students will be completing their clinicals.

The application must be completed in one sitting. You will not be able to save your application and complete it at a later time. The below information is required and must be completed and received within the application acceptance dates to be considered for the ASN, RN program.

  • Apply to Snow College
    Your Badger ID and Snow College email are required for your application. Correspondence from the Nursing Department, including final class placement, will go to your Snow College email.
  • Nursing Application fee of $25.00, non-refundable
    The Nursing Application fee can be paid online at https://payment.snow.edu/nursing during the application acceptance dates. If you encounter any issues while paying the fee online, contact the Snow College Cashier’s Office. Richfield 435-893-2249 or Ephraim 435-283-7296. Upload your receipt with your application.
  • Current, Utah CNA license
    Upload your CNA certificate with your application.
  • Two Evaluations
    Please provide your Evaluators’ names and their correct email addresses. Evaluators should be previous or current employers or a teacher. Friends or relatives will not be accepted. The evaluation forms will automatically be sent via email to your Evaluators when you submit your application. Please inform your Evaluators of the forthcoming email; have them check their junk/spam folder as well.
  • Essay questions
    • Why do you want to go into the nursing profession?
    • How do you define integrity?
    • Describe a time when you worked as part of a highly diverse team. Give an example.
    • Describe how you would handle conflict with another person. Give an example.

Writing skills are evaluated on how well each question is answered based on thoroughness, logic, clarity, insight, and on the proper use of the English language, including grammar, spelling, and vocabulary use. The length for each question should be a minimum of six sentences, preferably 12. Please provide examples. For your convenience, you may want to complete the essay questions in a Word document, then cut and paste them into the online application.

  • Scholarship - Optional
    Those interested in applying for a Nursing Scholarship will need to write a brief description of your financial needs, specify the area of nursing you wish to pursue, as well as your future goals in nursing.
  • Official transcripts
    Send official transcripts to Snow College from ALL colleges/universities you have attended. Snow College transcripts will not need to be sent.
