Snow College Student Art Galleries is pleased to present: Christopher Woodward: What Was Floating from October 22 - November 2, 2018 in the ANNEX Gallery, which is featured in the Eccles Center of Performing Arts building.
"Have you ever been to a pond or a lake and stepped on a dead fish dried up on the shore? Have you ever smelled the the potent odor of a rotting fish? Have you ever been tangled up on stray fishing line? We have a responsibility to our planet. Humans are a destructive force that shoot for the stars and usually make it. However, while we are looking we forget to look down and pay attention to the land we are treading on. What Was Floating brings attention to the abusive practices against wildlife that occur at our local ponds and lakes. Using fishing line that strangles our local ponds into the artwork, I immortalized the garbage that we pollute our lakes with—bringing the viewer face to face with the death of one of the most frequent victims at these locations. I hope my paintings are seen as compelling maybe even beautiful but mostly seen as vulgar and grotesque. I hope swing these images brings to attention the destruction we cause to these small homes an invokes the realization that we very easily can stop this scene from recurring."
—Chrisopher Woodward, Utah based artist and current Snow College AFA student.
ALTSPACE, ANNEX and GALLERY X are galleries dedicated to exhibiting independently
produced work by visual art students of Snow College. The spaces are designed to foster
initiative, independent thought, and professionalism. The student gallery spaces promote
studio practice beyond the boundaries of the classroom. Solo and collaborative exhibitions
are encouraged. Participants are selected by a jury process and are solely responsible
for the content, fabrication, marketing, and installation of exhibitions. These spaces
are venues for AFA Thesis Exhibitions near the conclusion AFA studies.
