SALT LAKE CITY- The State Board of Regents,
Friday, selected Richard W. Wheeler as the interim president of Snow College.
Wheeler will assume his duties on Jan. 1 when current President Michael T. Benson
leaves to become the 15th president of Southern Utah University. In January,
the Regents will announce the search committee and their plans for selecting
a new president of Snow College.
“I am confident Rick will ensure there is a smooth transition at Snow
College,” said Board of Regents Chair Jed Pitcher. “The college
plays a critical role in meeting the higher education needs of central Utah.
Rick is a capable leader who will maintain and improve Snow’s progress.”
Wheeler is currently Snow College’s vice president for College Affairs
and Advancement. He also serves in the Utah State Legislature as a representative
for House District 68.
Temporary adjustments will be made in several administrative assignments to
ensure that all college functions are adequately managed, particularly during
the legislative session.
Wheeler has a master’s degree in organizational/interpersonal communication
and a bachelor’s degree in speech communication and rhetoric from Brigham
Young University. He earned an associate’s degree from Snow College.
He and his wife, Linda, have six children and two grandchildren.
