NOLAN ARCHIBALD TO GIVE SNOW COLLEGE 2006 COMMENCEMENT

EPHRAIM, Utah—March 20, 2006—EPHRAIM, Utah Snow
College today announced that Nolan Archibald, chairman, president and chief
executive officer of The Black & Decker Corporation will speak at commencement
Saturday, April 29 at 10:00 a.m. in the Activity Center on Snow’s Ephraim
campus. The Snow College Board of Trustees will award Mr. Archibald an Honorary
Doctorate of Business during the ceremonies.
Archibald has roots
in Utah. He was an All-American basketball player at Weber State where he played
with Roger Reid, now the head basketball coach at Snow. Archibald’s commitment
to speak to Snow graduates is due to his close friendship with Reid that began
at Weber.
“To have someone of Nolan Archibald’s reputation and business acumen
speak at Snow College is truly an honor,” said Michael T. Benson, president
of Snow College. “Under Archibald’s leadership, Black & Decker
is noted for creativity, strong marketing and communication and a commitment
to customers that is second to none in their industry. We look forward to the
charge he will give the 2006 graduating class.”
Archibald joined The Black & Decker Corporation, a Fortune 500 company,
as president and chief operating officer in 1985. He became chief executive
officer in 1986 and has served continuously as chairman since 1987. Black &
Decker is a leading global manufacturer and marketer of power tools and accessories,
hardware and home improvement products and fastening and assembly systems.
Prior to joining Black & Decker, Archibald was president of the Consumer
Durables Group at Beatrice Companies, Inc. His division became one of the fastest
growing and most profitable at $1.7 billion.
Archibald sits on the boards of directors of the Huntsman Corporation, Lockheed
Martin Corporation and Brunswick Corporation. He was awarded the American Marketing
Association’s Edison Achievement Award for significant contributions to
marketing excellence and product innovation.
Archibald graduated from Weber State University and holds an MBA from the Harvard
Graduate School of Business.
Archibald joins a long list of distinguished commencement speakers at Snow College.
Senator Robert Bennett spoke in 2002, followed by Jon and Karen Huntsman in
2003, Larry H. Miller in 2004 and Gov. Jon Huntsman Jr. in 2005.
