Description:

Snow College seeks a dynamic, effective instructor to join our chemistry department in a full-time, tenure-track position. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic about active, student-centered learning, use current best practices in the classroom and lab, and motivate students to reach their educational goals while maintaining an appropriately rigorous curriculum. They will be dedicated to ensuring that not only the chemistry department but also Snow College as an institution achieve excellence in undergraduate education.

Qualifications:
  • PhD in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a closely-related field; MS candidates will be considered, but will be brought in at the Instructor level rather than at the Assistant Professor level

The successful candidate will:

  • Be able to teach introductory through general chemistry and organic chemistry
  • Use student-focused instruction practices that inspire students from a wide variety of educational backgrounds to put forth their best efforts in both the lecture classroom and the lab classroom
  • Be capable of creating effective courses for online instruction and distance education
  • Write, speak, and prepare presentations in English with fluency and clarity
  • Be eligible to work legally in the United States without sponsorship
  • Experience with analytical instrumentation, particularly GC-MS, is preferred, but not required

Candidates with experience in curriculum development and design; successful experience working with colleagues and in teams; skills to be an excellent recruiter, advisor, mentor, and connector; or experience working with students from underrepresented demographics will be given preference

Major Responsibilities/Duties:
  • Full-time faculty are expected to teach 15 credit hour equivalencies per semester. Faculty in this position will usually teach general education chemistry, general-organic-biochemistry, general chemistry, or organic chemistry. They may be requested to teach general education physical science or to teach a cross-disciplinary general education course. They may also teach honors or special topics courses on areas of personal interest. These courses may be taught face-to-face, online, or via interactive video conferencing (IVC).
  • Work as a team with other chemistry faculty to improve lecture and lab instruction in the department as a whole
  • Participate in student recruitment, advising, and mentoring
  • Participate in Division of Natural Sciences, Mathematics, and Engineering-wide community outreach activities such as Science Olympiad and the monthly Science Nights
  • Participate in faculty development activities and serve on college committees

Salary: 

$47,000-$50,780 DOE
