Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree required; 8 years’ experience working with TRIO programs or Master’s
degree preferred.
- A minimum of two-year’s experience working with high school students in a student
development, academic affairs, student services, or related capacity; experience in
academic advising and curriculum development.
- Demonstrated ability to relate to persons from disadvantaged backgrounds.
- Related data entry and/or recordkeeping experience; ability to learn new technologies.
- Accomplished in communicating using Standard English. Writing and speaking is expected
using correct content, grammar, spelling and mechanics.
- Demonstrated report writing and assessment skills.
- Ability to work independently, take initiative, and work in a team environment.
- Ability to establish strong professional relationships with on-campus as well as off-campus
stakeholders.
- Technologically proficient with email and MS office suite; Canvas: student-information-system
experience (i.e. Banner or similar) and web development.
- Strong organization skills; the ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
- Strong attention to detail and problem solving.
- Ability to work under pressure and to prioritize competing demands.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects simultaneously
and meet stated deadlines.
- Strong commitment and motivation to contribute to the success of Snow College Upward
Bound high school students.
- A working knowledge of student development theory, best practices, FAFSA and FERPA
are highly desirable.
- Flexibility in scheduling is imperative. Some paid travel is required of this position
(conferences, meetings, training, recruitment activities, student retreats, etc.)
outside of normal work hours. This may include over-night stays depending on the location
of the activity attended. Occasional evening and weekend work is required of this
position in support of special events.

Major Responsibilities/Duties:
Administrative Assistant III (75% of time):
- Works independently with a high degree of accuracy and clarity on confidential reports,
files and data collection.
- Provides high quality academic advising to high school participants which includes,
but is not limited to: selecting majors, selecting coursework/scheduling, connecting
students to campus resources, tracking student progress, and assisting students in
the transfer and financial aid processes.
- Maintains electronic and/or hard copy articulation files.
- Coordinates with the varying offices of admissions as needed.
- Maintains confidentiality and demonstrate knowledge and understanding of ethics in
data collection and analysis; adhere to Snow College policies and procedures; meet
requirements for state and federal privacy guidelines.
- Maintains Upward Bound’s web pages.
- Monitors and maintains social media connections.
- Monitors and maintains student academic grades and course schedules.
- Researches and develops new internet-based modalities of teaching, advising and communicating.
- Publishes newsletter by gathering information, designing product, and distributing.
- Establishes course of action by exploring options; sets goals with Director.
- Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
- Plans concept by studying information and materials.
- Creates publicity materials, i.e., newsletter, informational DVDs, posters, etc.
- Serves as an advocate for Low-Income/First Generation (LIFG) students aspiring to
succeed in post-secondary education (PSE).
- Participates in all activities of the project including support during Summer Academy.
- Maintains on-going relationships with universities and target schools.
- Attends state, regional, and/or national conferences and training annually. Present
at conferences as appropriate.
- Collaborates and participates in orientation, Saturday or night school events as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Upward Bound.
Instruction (25% of time)
- Supports and implements Upward Bound’s academic and leadership programs overall mission
to develop student’s success in high school and preparation for college (PSE).
- Develops and instruct curriculum as needed.
- Stays current with: general education requirements, major requirements, prerequisite
requirements, transfer requirements, graduation requirements, and campus policies
& scheduling.
- Teaches units through “Canvas” and in person.
- Increases involvement in campus activities and overall Upward Bound Activities.
- Advises, coaches, teaches and coordinates student leaders and Upward Bound volunteers.
- Travels to all target schools as needed.
- Mentors and monitors students’ academic success.
- Teaches student leaders about event planning, budgeting and risk management.
- Collaborates with faculty, staff and student groups to provide a variety of meaningful
events and activities that promote student development/involvement.
- Recruits and coordinates new student orientation.
- Communicates effectively with the Director of Upward Bound, Snow College campus staff
and faculty, target schools staff and faculty, the public, students, families of students,
other departments, and other individuals as needed
Additional Information:
This is a 12-month ¾ time staff position. Approximately 30 hours per week (flexible
but generally Monday-Friday 9:00-3:00); additional hours may be required during scheduled
activities.
This is a 12-month position with one unpaid week off at the following holidays: Memorial
Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, and Christmas/New Year’s. Additional unpaid time
off available upon request.
Salary:
$19,000 - $21,000 DOE
