Snow College Announces Commencement 2020 Plans

Officials will celebrate students virtually, via mail, and face-to-face

Snow College’s administration announced plans to celebrate students’ graduation during the current COVID-19 pandemic. The college offered an “Alternative Commencement Plans” survey to all graduating students and made its action plan based on feedback received.

During Final’s Week, college administrators will share congratulatory comments virtually with students, and in mid-May candidates for graduation will receive a package in the mail with a Class of 2020 keepsake. During Homecoming 2020, which is tentatively slated for October 24, graduates will be invited back to their respective campus for a celebration. Those students who are interested in participating in a formal ceremony are invited to join faculty and staff in May, 2021.

President Bradley J. Cook acknowledged this difficult decision and focused on the college’s interest in student learning and safety. He said, “Commencement is traditionally the highlight of the academic year for students and faculty, and we are saddened that we cannot be together to celebrate the accomplishments of the Class of 2020 this spring. We will do all we can to recognize students now and in the fall, when - hopefully - conditions allow us to gather. We recognize our students’ hard work and appreciate their strong character during this unique time.”

One student demonstrated maturity and character in this anonymously-submitted comment on the survey: “I know these are very challenging circumstances. I realize we all have worked very hard to get to where we are today and want to be recognized for that. However, at this point I am grateful and feel blessed to be alive and healthy…I am very grateful to the amazing instructors I have had while at Snow. Thank you!”
