Course Description: Everyone has an imagination! This course will be a catalyst to strengthening each student’s creative process by bringing the imagination to life through the process of drawing. It will include the investigation of numerous ideation methods, including, the use of photographic images, the integration of the computer, and pure visualized drawing. Students will explore the imagination in a fun and inventive way to open a new world of creativity. Students will also explore the unlimited uses of digital medium—exploring how to paint with the computer using leading edge digital imaging software and a tablet. In the age of the computer it is imperative to be proficient with digital imaging in the creative industry. Analysis of the human form and how it relates to most forms of mythical character development will also be investigated and students will create their own character creations. Discussion will examine how concept artists create for film, gaming, and other types of entertainment fields within the creative industry. Each student will adapt their creations into the computer and take it to final concept.
Biography: “Dean stop daydreaming and do your work,” said every teacher he had in school. Dean Kleven continues to successfully daydream as a freelance artist. For the past 20 years he has been commissioned to create work for Disney, Pixar, Harry Potter, and Hasbro, just to name a few. He is responsible for the DVD Cover of Lion King and Prince of Egypt, was the first artist to illustrate the Quidditch match for Harry Potter, and has illustrated over 200 titles of children's books. Dean was born and raised in Southern California received his education at Mount San Antonio College and worked for two different party goods companies prior to starting his freelance career.
