Dwight (Alton) Hansen - 1986 Alum
Where you are currently employed?
I have been working for BYU-Idaho for the past 24 years. Former Snow President Steven
Bennion hired me when he moved from Snow College to Ricks College. I have worked in
Admissions, High School Relations, Scholarships, and Development. I am currently working
for LDS Philanthropies in Rexburg as the Direct Marketing Specialist for BYU, BYU-Hawaii,
BYU-Idaho, and LDS Business College. We raise funding for scholarships/grants to assist
students at each institution.
- What are your hobbies?
I am a Fishing and Hunting fanatic. Near Rexburg, there are numerous rivers and lakes
to fish. Some are even Blue Ribbon fisheries. I supply my office employees with fish.
I also hunt ducks, geese, deer and elk in the Upper Snake River area. I have also
coached youth football, basketball and baseball for 27 years.
- How did Snow College contribute to your accomplishments?
Snow College was a learning/growing experience for me. First time away from parents
and before my mission, it was a bit scary being dropped off in Ephraim. I learned
to make friends and get involved with activities at the school. I made a friend with
a local (Doug Larsen – Ephraim), and he took me fishing and hunting. After my mission,
I came back to Snow. I was elected Men’s President on the student body council for
1985-1986. Dean Green taught me how to be a leader, Bro. Paulsen taught me to ‘learn
from your mistakes’, President Steven Bennion taught me to ‘remember people’. And
there were other teachers/leaders that helped me too.
- What is your most memorable moment at Snow College?
I have two:
1) Being at the top of the stadium and watching our Snow Badgers football team beat
Northeastern Oklahoma A&M for the 1985 National Championship. I remember President
Bennion arranged a plane to take the entire team and supporters to Oklahoma and support
our team. Because I was a student body officer, I was very fortunate to be able to
go to that game and be on the plane ride home. Great Experience!
2) Because I was the AMS President, I was responsible for a number of dances at Snow
in the old gym. The last one in May was sad, because my life/career/education at Snow
College was coming to an end. I remember sitting down with my date outside the gym
and looking all around campus and looking in the gym. My time was done at Snow, sad
