Electrical Apprenticeship

Electricians install and maintain residential, commercial, and industrial electrical systems. All buildings have an electrical system that is installed during construction and maintained after that. Electricians read blueprints, which are technical diagrams of electrical systems that show the location of circuits, outlets, and other equipment.

NOTE: The State of Utah requires electrical apprentices to have 576 classroom hours and 8,000 on-the-job training hours to become licensed Journeyman Electricians. Students also must pass the state Journeyman Electrician exam. Snow College does not provide on-the-job training nor act as a sponsor for apprentices. Individuals are responsible for finding their own employment. Snow College suggests that students work as licensed apprentice electricians before beginning this program. All electricians must register with the Utah State Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing (DOPL).

Admission Requirements

This program is open to qualified high school and adult students who meet the following program requirements:

ADULT STUDENTS: Have a high school diploma or equivalent
HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS: Must be at least 16 years of age AND be in 11th or 12th grade
Students should complete at least 50% of the total program course requirements while enrolled at the college.

NOTE: It is recommended that students be licensed apprentices, working for a licensed contractor prior to beginning this program. Students must be licensed as an Apprentice Electrician in Utah to enter the program's second year or higher.
