Catalog Description: This Course is for second year members of the women's intercollegiate soccer team at Snow College.

Prerequisites: Instructor permission

Justification: Physical activity is an important component of lifetime health and wellness. Physical activity can lead to positive physiological and psychological outcomes. Obesity, cardiovascular disease, Type-II diabetes, osteoporosis and cancer risk may be reduced with physical activity. Physical activity has been identified as an effective antidepressant and treatment for depression. This class will provide access to physical activity for students enrolled.


Student Learning Outcomes:
Demonstrate the skills, fundamentals and rules of soccer.  Students will demonstrate their knowledge of these areas through game play; participation in practice and conditioning; work ethic/attitude demonstrated on the field and through their ability to work with their teammates.

Demonstrate the leadership qualities associated with playing as a team. Students will demonstrate their knowledge of these areas through game play; participation in practice and conditioning; work ethic/attitude demonstrated on the field and through their ability to work with their teammates.

Explain and discuss the use of physical conditioning techniques and training skills. Students will demonstrate their knowledge of these areas through game play; participation in practice and conditioning; work ethic/attitude demonstrated on the field and through their ability to work with their teammates.


Content:
This course will cover all the fundamentals of soccer including: Offense, Defense, Team play, Special situations, and Conditioning. Players from across the world play on Snow's soccer teams. There are regional differences in playing styles. This course will incorporate players' style into practices and matches. Students with the highest caliber of skill will play regardless of their national and/or cultural background.

Key Performance Indicators:
Student athletes level of play in games 10 to 30%

Participation in practices and conditioning skills  30 to 30%

Work ethic and attitude  30 to 40%

Ability to work within a team environment  10 to 20%

Pedagogy Statement:
This class is primarily taught in an on field lab setting. Instructors will use on field demonstration as well as film to teach new skills and to evaluate the class (team). This course will promote inclusion by structuring assessment and teaching methods with the specific philosophy of valuing each participant's effort to improve no matter the social category or demographic group they identify with.
