Justification: Physical activity is an important component of lifetime health and wellness. Physical activity can lead to positive physiological and psychological outcomes. Obesity, cardiovascular disease, Type-II diabetes, osteoporosis and cancer risk may be reduced with physical activity. Physical activity has been identified as an effective antidepressant and treatment for depression. This class will provide access to physical activity for students enrolled.


Student Learning Outcomes:
Students will be able to demonstrate the skills, fundamentals and rules of football. This will be assessed through on-field testing.

Students will be able to demonstrate the leadership qualities associated with playing as a team. This will be assessed through instructor evaluation of leadership opportunities throughout the semester.

Students will be able to explain and discuss the use of physical conditioning techniques and training skills. This will be assessed through participation in practices, conditioning and on-field testing and evaluation.


Content:
This course will cover all the fundamentals of football including:
• Offense
• Defense
• Team play
• Special situations
• Conditioning

Respect for all players, opponents, and the history of the game will be taught as crucial in the players' and coaches' appreciation of the diversity of individuals involved in the sport.

Students will be evaluated on

participation in practices and conditioning 25 to 40%

work ethic and attitude 25 to 40%

ability to work within a team environment 30 to 40%

weekly check-in 10 to 30%

Pedagogy Statement:
This class will be taught by lecture and lab, which allows the students to learn about participating on an intercollegiate sports team.

Largely an activity course dedicated to collegiate level football, instructors will focus lectures and labs on the importance of individual performance contributing to success of the team as a whole.
