Catalog Description: Lifetime Fitness is a course for individuals who are interested in maintaining their fitness but not particularly interested in participating in activities that are team or group oriented. They will be taught basic fundamentals of maintaining a healthy lifestyle through mini lectures and exposure to activities that can be performed in a variety of locations from the gym to the home and outdoors.

Prerequisites: None

Justification: Physical activity is an important component of lifetime health and wellness. Physical activity can lead to positive physiological and psychological outcomes. Obesity, cardiovascular disease, Type-II diabetes, osteoporosis and cancer risk may be reduced with physical activity. Physical activity has been identified as an effective antidepressant and treatment for depression. This class will provide access to physical activity for students enrolled.

Students will be able to identify several individual activities. In class assessment.

Students will be avle to identify qualities of a healthy lifestyle. In class assessment.

Students will engage in regular physical activity. In class assessment.

This class will be taught in a lab setting where the instructor will guide the students through a variety of activities.
