Catalog Description: This Course is for first year members of the Womens intercollegiate volleyball team at Snow College. It is not repeatable for credit.

Justification: Physical activity is an important component of lifetime health and wellness. Physical activity can lead to positive physiological and psychological outcomes. Obesity, cardiovascular disease, Type-II diabetes, osteoporosis and cancer risk may be reduced with physical activity. Physical activity has been identified as an effective antidepressant and treatment for depression. This class will provide access to physical activity for students enrolled.


Student Learning Outcomes:
Students will be able to demonstrate the skills, fundamentals and rules of volleyball. In class and on the court assessment.

Students will be able to demonstrate the leadership qualities associated with playing as a team. In class and on the court assessment.

Students will be able to explain and discuss the use of physical conditioning techniques and training skills. In class and on the court assessment.


Content:
This course will cover all the fundamentals of volleyball including:
• Offense
• Defense
• Team play
• Special situations
• Conditioning

Key Performance Indicators:
Students will be evaluated on:

Participation in practices and conditioning skills 30 to 40%

Work ethic and attitude 30 to 40%

Ability to work within a team environment 20 to 40%


Pedagogy Statement:
It is anticipated that this course will have both lecture time as well as time for practicing skills, assessments etc.
