Course Description

This course examines the use of instructional technology in the field of education. Current use of technology will be studied along with the historical context and possible future uses. Attention will be given to how to use technology in a manner that is appropriate, ethical, and aids in the improvement of the educational experience for the students.

Justification

This course is required for all education majors. It is a prerequisite to most university teacher-education programs and forms part of the course requirements in others. This course will offer students a foundation on the use of technology in education and the tools necessary to incorporate new technology in the coming years.

Student Learning Outcomes

  1. Students will be able to identify, develop, and implement possible uses of technology to enhance the learning opportunities for their students.
  2. Students will be able to explain ways in which technology forms part of Universal Design and develop strategies to utilize it.
  3. Students will be able to evaluate ways technology can improve their teaching, time management, and classroom management.
  4. Students will be able to demonstrate the importance of using technology in a legal, ethical, and socially responsible manner and be able to apply that knowledge to make sound decisions.
  5. Students will be able to identify specific tools and develop strategies to incorporate them in their lessons.
