Constitution 1990

 

Article 1 ... Name

 

1.         This organization shall be known as the Dead Cats Society (in honor of those who have given so much that we might learn).

 

            a.         Snow College shall be known as the international head quarters of this organization.

 

Article 2 ... Objective

 

1.         To give service to the Department of Biology in particular and to Snow College in general.  Through this service we hope to better the quality of teaching and gain experience in the life sciences.  (To set up labs for Dr. Paul A. Gardner.)

 

2.         To supplement Family Home Evening activities as necessary.

 

3.         To stimulate the learning of the life sciences through discussion and activities and humor.

 

            a.  To have a laboratory and field experience once a quarter.

 

            b.  To provide information about careers in the life sciences.

 

            c.  To increase public awareness of the importance of the life sciences in our lives.

 

4.         To promote the preservation and quality of life of our species.

 

5.         To promote a good image of the life sciences and those involved in them.

 

6.         To promote greater understanding of science in general and life sciences in particular.

 

7.         To promote an appreciation for all life on this planet and beyond.

 

8.         To bravely go where no organization on Snow College Campus has gone before.

 

Article 3 ... Meetings

 

1.         There shall be no meetings, only gatherings of the pride.

 

2.         Gatherings of the pride shall be held once a week.

                        3.         Sixty-six (66) percent of the active members of the organization must be present to constitute a quorum at any regularly called gathering.

 

4.         All members must be 66.6% aware of what is going on to constitute a gathering.

 

5.         All international gathering shall have refreshments which shall be provided by the host nation.

 

6.         The annual gathering for the election of officers shall be held during spring quarter each year.

 

Article 4 ... Membership

 

1.         Qualifications for membership are:

 

            a.         A sincere interest in the living organisms of this planet and those which are beyond.

 

            b.         A willingness to actively support the objectives of D.C.S.

 

2.         Membership in this organization shall not be limited.

 

Article 5 ... Government

 

1.         The government and general direction of the organization shall be conducted by the group as a whole, assembled at regular gatherings.

 

2.         Officers shall be president, vice president, secretary, and treasurer; they shall be elected at the annual gathering of this organization.  They shall have a tenure of one year or until their successors have been elected or shall be eligible for election.  The ordinary business of the organization shall be conducted by the duly elected officers.

 

3.         The duties of the officers:

 

            a.         The president shall superintend the club business generally, and preside at all regular gatherings.

 

            b.         The vice president shall perform the duties of the president in the absence or inability of the president.

 

            c.         The secretary shall take and preserve the minutes of all gatherings, conduct the club correspondence, keep an accurate and complete list of the membership of the club and the attendance at each regular meeting, and inform members of the time and place of gatherings.

 

            d.         The treasurer shall collect and disburse the club funds and keep the accounts of the club, which shall at all times be open to the inspection of the members of the club.

 

4.         Committees:  The president shall appoint committees as may be found necessary to better conduct the business of the club.  All standing committees, when requested by the president, must render reports in writing about their activities.

 

            a.         Committees shall include, but not be limited to, a service committee, an activities committee, and a careers committee.

 

Article 6 ... Club Dues and Funds

 

1.         Dues of members shall be $6.00 annually.

 

2.         Additional funds may be raised by contests, benefits, and other events.

 

3.         Funds collected by the organization shall be used to advance the objectives and purposes of the organization, and the disbursements thereof must be authorized by the president and at least one other officer.
