Basic Skills Assignment #4
Your fourth basic skills assignment continues our discussion on evaluating sources.
Using the checklists in the tan boxes (Hacker, pages 339 and 340), evaluate the following
four websites. Which ones would be good to use in a research paper? Which ones would
you not use? What aspects of the pages assure you or worry you in terms of academic
credibility?
Write down your conclusions about the sites' credibility, and be sure to give reasons
for your conclusions. Make sure your reasons are specific: "I wouldn't use this site
because it isn't credible" is not as good as "This site isn't credible because it
is designed to sell a product more than to present a reasoned argument."
Here are the websites to consider. Remember that you don't have to read the whole
page (or watch the whole video) to get clues about credibility.

Your response should be typed and will count towards the 50 point basic skills
category. It should be about a half-page long, and it is due at the beginning of class
