About Me

I have been teaching writing and literature at Snow College since 2005, and I regularly teach English 1010, 2010, 2200 (Introduction to Literature), and 2210 (Folklore and Literature). I received my Ph.D. in 2004 from the University of Missouri where my areas of emphasis were in folklore and 19th-century American literature. I also taught writing, literature, and folklore while at Missouri and at Brigham Young University, where I received my B.A. and M.A.

Because I am an English professor, it's no surprise that I enjoy reading and writing. Lately, I've enjoyed reading Salman Rushdie, Louise Erdrich, and Philip Roth. I've published several articles, including one on Joseph Smith and "folk magic," one on the life of C.S. Lewis, and one on the folklore surrounding the 1838 Mormon expulsion from Missouri. Currently, I'm working on a folklore textbook and several articles on folklore and literature.

I currently live in Ephraim with my wife and three daughters. My kids provide me ample opportunity to analyze the represenational politics of Dora, the Explorer and the Disney princesses.
