Basic Skills Assignment #1
For your first basic skills assignment, I'd like you to apply our discussion from
Friday on cooperative and aggressive argumentation. To complete this assignment do
the following:
- read the comments on articles in one of Utah's main newspapers or news radio stations.
To find articles go to the Salt Lake Tribune,
the Deseret News, or KSL. While you should read the articles themselves focus on the comments that
follow the article.
- As you read, look for comments that engage in cooperative or aggressive argumentation.
- Write a paragraph response that does two things:
- Using your reading and class discussion as a guide, define what you think agressive
and cooperative argumentation is.
- Give examples of your definitions using the comments you find following the articles.
Your response should be typed and be about one page long. It will count towards the
90 point basic skills category. It is due at the beginning of class on Monday, January
10th.
