Catalog Description: In this course students will perfect skills they have learned in previous classes in sanitation practices, improving soft skills, and enhancing their business and marketing skills.

Justification: Students taking this course along with TENT 1110, TENT 1200, and TENT 1600, will perfect the skills required of Nail Technicians. The Nail Technology program can be taken alone or as part of the Cosmetology/Barbering program.


Student Learning Outcomes:
Perfect and demonstrate procedures covered in previous courses covering business skills, proper safety, infection control procedures, and professional behavior.
 This outcome will be assessed through assignments, discussions, quizzes, and working on clients through hand-on application and participation. An instructor will observe and check the work performed on clients, and feedback will be given.

Implement business and marketing skills to include a business portfolio and business statement. This outcome will be assessed through assignments, discussions, and quizzes.

Demonstrate and perfect skills gained in previous courses in acting professionally, communicating effectively with clients to avoid infectious diseases, and proper sanitation
practices while working on clients. This outcome will be assessed through assignments, discussions, quizzes, and working on clients through hand-on application and participation. An instructor will observe and check the work performed on clients, and feedback will be given.


 


Content:

Objectives:
- Perfect and demonstrate procedures covered in previous courses covering business skills, proper safety, infection control procedures, and professional behavior.
- Implement business and marketing skills to include a business portfolio and business statement.
- Demonstrate and perfect skills gained in previous courses in acting professionally, communicating effectively with clients to avoid infectious diseases, and proper sanitation practices while working on clients.

We strive to introduce all students to the procedures performed in the beauty industry and all them to express their differences and culture through creative projects and group activities. The course is designed to empower and foster talent in all students, including groups traditionally underrepresented in this career, and to move beyond stereotypes.

Representative Text and/or Supplies:
8th edition Milady Standard Nail Technology textbook, and CIMA 1-year Access Card. (both are required for)

Supplemental materials may be required


Pedagogy Statement:
Teaching methods may include lecture, class discussion, group work, hands-on activities, and the incorporation of low-stakes assignments.

In this course, instructors will strive to connect with students on a personal level by spending multiple hours daily with this group of students. Students will also be encouraged to make connections in order to foster an inclusive classroom atmosphere. This may be accomplished through group assignments. Students will rotate until everyone has had the opportunity to work together.
